EASTON, Mass. (May 7, 2017) – Freshman Catherine Purves (Dalkeith, Scotland) scored in a pair of hurdles events, including her first career Northeast-10 Conference title on Sunday, as she led the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team to an eighth-place finish, out of 12 teams, at the NE10 Championships, hosted by Stonehill College.

The Ravens had seven scoring performances on the meet's second day, which ran their weekend total to 42 points and the eighth-place finish. Up front, Stonehill (169.5 points) took home the NE10 crown by scoring a 24.5-point victory over Southern Connecticut State (145 points), while Assumption (110 points) finished third.

Purves picked up her first-ever NE10 title in the 400-meter hurdles on Sunday. Her run of 1:00.78 picked up 10 points for Franklin Pierce. Her time in the 100-meter hurdles may have been even more impressive, as she posted a school record and the East Region's second-best time while finishing second. The time of 14.09 seconds picked up eight more points, as Purves chalked up an impressive double for the weekend.

Purves also had a hand in knocking down another school record, in the 4x100-meter relay. A lineup of senior Breigh Souliere (Cumberland, R.I.), Purves, senior Samantha Toscano (Northwood, N.H.) and freshman Ariana Alvarado (Naugatuck, Conn.) got the baton around the track in 48.87 seconds, which was good for fourth place and five points.

Souliere and Toscano each also scored as individuals on Sunday. Behind Purves in the 100-meter hurdles, Souliere placed seventh, with a run of 15.04 seconds, to pick up two points. In the triple jump, Toscano posted a hop, skip and jump totaling 11.00 meters to finish eighth and notch one point.

Two other individuals picked up points as well for the Ravens. In the discus, freshman Katey Comstock (Windsor, Vt.) moved to seventh in the East Region with a throw of 38.31 meters, which was good for fifth place and four points. Meanwhile, in the heptathlon, senior Nicole Galewski (Whitman, Mass.) placed fourth (4205 points) to collect five points.

The Ravens return to the track on May 12-13, when select members participate in the NEICAAA Championships, hosted by Williams College in Williamstown, Mass.
