Lambert Mile Leads Way for Women’s Track & Field in Second-Place Finish at Elm City Challenge

Baah second in both high jump and triple jump

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (December 11, 2015) – Senior Alyssa Lambert (Manchester, N.H.) met the NCAA Championships provisional qualifying mark in the mile on Friday, leading the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team on the second day of the Elm City Challenge, hosted by Southern Connecticut State. Ultimately, the Ravens earned 92 points over two days to finish second in the six-team meet.

Lambert's mile run of 5:00.61 was good enough to win the event on Friday at the James W. Moore Field House, and she earned 10 points for the Ravens in the process. After conversion, due to the meet taking place on a flat track, the time drops to 4:57.67, allowing Lambert to meet the NCAA Championships provisional qualifying standard in the event. NCAA qualifying standards are based on times run on a banked track. Lambert's time also met the NEICAAA Championships qualifying mark in the event.

It was an 18-point day for Lambert in the Elm City, as she also competed in the 3000 meters. She placed second, with a time of 10:45.37, to earn eight more points for the team.

Franklin Pierce's other multi-event scorer was freshman Lilian Baah (Danielson, Conn.), who finished second in both the high jump and the triple jump, earning eight points in each event for the Ravens. In the high jump, she cleared 1.40 meters, while she posted a mark of 11.07 meters in the triple jump.

Baah was not the only Raven to score in the high jump, as junior teammate Nicole Galewski (Weymouth, Mass.) won the event. Galewski picked up 10 points by clearing 1.55 meters.

It was part of an impressive haul of points for the Ravens in field events on Friday, as the team had three others earn points as well. In the shot put, freshman Kendra Covington (Torrington, Conn.) picked up two points with a heave of 10.75 meters to finish fifth. Franklin Pierce had a pair of student-athletes score in the weight throw, as sophomore Emily Quinn (West Bridgewater, Mass.) posted a mark of 13.74 meters to finish fifth and earn two points, while junior Kendra Plant (Cumberland, R.I.) posted a mark of 12.93 meters to finish sixth and earn one point.

Franklin Pierce's remaining points came on the track, courtesy of senior Danielle Koch (Coventry, Conn.). She ran a time of 2:26.19 to finish fifth in the 800 meters and earn two points.

It all added up to 92 points and a second-place finish for the Ravens at the two-day meet. Host SCSU rang up 146 points to post a convincing victory, while the Ravens were 25 points in front of third-place St. Thomas Aquinas (67 points).

The Ravens return to action after the semester break, on Sunday, Jan. 10, when they travel to the Dartmouth Relays in Hanover, N.H.
