Women’s Track & Field Second After First Day of Elm City Challenge

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (December 10, 2015) – The distance medley relay team for the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team came away with a victory on Thursday to lead the way for the Ravens on the first day of the Elm City Challenge, hosted by Southern Connecticut State. The victory was part of an 11.5-point day for Franklin Pierce, which sits second after the first day of the two-day event, trailing host SCSU by 6.5 points.

The distance medley relay team picked up five points after turning in a time of 12:30.67 at the James W. Moore Field House. The quartet consisted of senior Danielle Koch (Coventry, Conn.), senior Monique Loney (Stamford, Conn.), sophomore Danielle Crawford (Lowell, Mass.) and senior Alyssa Lambert (Manchester, N.H.).

Loney also competed in the 55-meter dash on Thursday, where she ran a preliminary time of 7.59 seconds and followed with a 7.56 in the final to finish fifth, though she did not score in the event. Franklin Pierce's remaining points on the track came in the 55-meter hurdles, courtesy of junior Breigh Souliere (Cumberland, R.I.). Souliere ran a 9.05 in prelims and nearly matched it with a 9.07 in the final to finish third and earn two points. Junior Nicole Galewski (Weymouth, Mass.) did not score, but ran a 10.05 in her heat to qualify for the final and finished fifth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.95 seconds.

The remainder of Franklin Pierce's scoring came in the pole vault, where a pair of Ravens earned points. Sophomore Kelsey Lee-Donnelly (Manchester, N.H.) cleared a height of 2.45 meters to finish third and earn three points. Meanwhile, junior Shannon Coffey (Bohemia, N.Y.) recorded a mark of 2.15 meters to tie for fourth and earn 1.5 points.

The Elm City Challenge concludes on Friday at the Moore Field House.
