Women’s Track & Field Opens New Year by Competing at Dartmouth Relays

HANOVER, N.H. (January 10, 2016) – The Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team made its first appearance of the new year on Sunday, as the team competed at the Dartmouth Relays. The host Big Green piled up 177 points to run away with the meet title, while the Ravens failed to record a point along the way.

Fielding only a partial squad, prior to ramping the full team back up to speed next weekend, the Ravens primarily used Sunday's meet to shake off the rust, as they had not competed since Dec. 11. As a result, many of the marks posted at Dartmouth were a step back from the end of the winter semester, as the team now begins a stretch of competing -- and, in theory, improving -- every week from now through the NEICAAA Championships on Feb. 26-27.

A pair of Ravens did still stand out on the track on Sunday. In the 60-meter hurdles, junior Nicole Galewski (Weymouth, Mass.) finished 17th, with a time of 10.56 seconds, which is currently good for 16th in the Northeast-10 Conference. In the 800 meters, freshman Sarah Hart (Glastonbury, Conn.) turned in a time of 2:40.01 to place 25th. The time converts to a 2:38.10, which is good for 17th in the Northeast-10.

Meanwhile, in field events, junior Samantha Toscano (Northwood, N.H.) picked up a top-10 finish in the long jump. Her leap of 4.67 meters was good for ninth place.

Also of note for Franklin Pierce on Sunday was senior Alyssa Lambert (Manchester, N.H.), who did not finish the 3,000 meters. It remains to be seen whether her exit was precautionary, or if the Ravens will be without one of their biggest threats on the track in the coming weeks.

The Ravens return to action on Friday, Jan. 15, when they send select athletes to the East Coast Challenge in New York City. The full squad returns to the track on Saturday, Jan. 16 at the Plymouth State Invitational in Plymouth, N.H.
