Women’s Track & Field Finishes Program-Best Seventh at Northeast-10 Championships

Price scores in 100-meter hurdles and in two relays

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 2, 2015) – Junior Nadine Hyde (Maple Valley, Wash.) finished second in the discus on Saturday, to post the highest finish of the weekend for the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team on the second and final day of the Northeast-10 Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut State at Jess Dow Field. Franklin Pierce finished with 40 points to place seventh out of 11 teams, the highest finish in program history.

SCSU, which was a narrow second after Friday, finished with 180.50 points to claim the Northeast-10 crown. The Owls were 2.5-point winners over Stonehill, which finished second (178 points), while New Haven placed third (135).

Hyde posted a season-best heave of 37.25 meters in the discus to lead the way for the Ravens on Saturday. The second-place finish was good for eight points.

Meanwhile, on the track, junior Jackie Price (Brick, N.J.), who ran the eighth-fastest heat time in the 100-meter hurdles Friday, ran a time of 14.99 seconds to finish seventh in Saturday's final and garner two points. Fellow junior Alyssa Lambert (Manchester, N.H.) picked up a point in the 5000 meters by running an 18:32.79 to finish eighth.

Price was also a part of two point-scoring relay teams for the Ravens, each of which ran season-best times. In the 4x100-meter relay, a quartet of junior Monique Loney (Stamford, Conn.) to Price to junior Nicki Zeigler (Circleville, N.Y.) to sophomore Nicole Galewski (Pembroke, Mass.) got the baton around the track in 49.34 seconds to finish fourth and earn five points. In the 4x400-meter relay, Price, sophomore Kayla Phipps (New Windsor, N.Y.), freshman Danielle Crawford (Lowell, Mass.) and Loney did a lap each and finished seventh with a 4:09.05 to pick up two more points.

In the heptathlon, sophomore Samantha Toscano (Northwood, N.H.) was not quite able to make her way into scoring position on Saturday, as she remained ninth and finished with 3590 points for the weekend, a season best.

The Ravens return to the track on Friday and Saturday, May 8-9, at the New England Championships, hosted by MIT in Cambridge, Mass.
