Lambert scores in both 1500, 4x800

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 1, 2015) – Three Ravens scored in the hammer throw, while junior Alyssa Lambert (Manchester, N.H.) scored in a pair of events on Friday, as the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team competed on the first day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut State at Jess Dow Field. Through one day, Franklin Pierce is fifth, out of 11 teams which have scored points, with 22 points.

Franklin Pierce is just a half-point behind fourth place New Haven (22.5 points). At the top, Stonehill (72) holds a narrow lead over second place SCSU (69.5), while American International sits in third (31.5).

The strongest event of the day for the Ravens came in the hammer throw, where three different athletes scored points and each posted their collegiate best while doing so. Junior Nadine Hyde (Maple Valley, Wash.) led the way in fourth place, with a heave of 44.74 meters to earn five points for Franklin Pierce. Behind her, sophomore Kendra Plant (Cumberland, R.I.) earned two points by finishing seventh (40.52 meters) and freshman Emily Quinn (West Bridgewater, Mass.) earned one point by finishing eighth (40.39 meters).

Franklin Pierce also scored in two other field events on Friday. In the javelin, sophomore Miranda Gagnon (Rollinsford, N.H.) threw the spear 34.75 meters to finish fourth and earn five points. Meanwhile, in the long jump, sophomore Nicole Galewski (Pembroke, Mass.) leaped 5.44 meters to finish seventh and earn two points.

On the track, Lambert placed sixth in the 1500 meters with her college-best time of 4:47.41 to tally three points. Lambert also anchored the 4x800-meter relay, which finished fifth to earn four points. Junior Danielle Koch (Coventry, Conn.), sophomore Holly Lindoe (Holbrook, N.Y.) and freshman Danielle Crawford (Lowell, Mass.) teamed to get the baton to Lambert, who crossed the finish line at 9:47.72.

Elsewhere, junior Jackie Price (Brick, N.J.) ran the eighth-fastest heat time in the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries, with a mark of 15.23 seconds. The time was good enough to advance her to tomorrow's final, where she will earn points for the Ravens.

Sophomore Samantha Toscano (Northwood, N.H.) competed in the first day of the heptathlon and currently sits in ninth, out of 10 competitors, with 2128 points. She placed ninth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.44 seconds (548 points), finished seventh in the high jump with a mark of 1.48 meters (599 points), placed 10th in the shot put with a distance of 6.65 meters (313 points) and finished seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.54 seconds (668 points).

The Northeast-10 Championships conclude on Saturday.
