Olson moves into NE-10 top five in javelin

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (April 21, 2014) – Sophomore Nadine Hyde (Maple Valley, Wash.) finished seventh in the hammer throw with a season-best throw of 38.10 meters on Saturday afternoon as one of several highlights for the Franklin Pierce University women's track and field team at the Sean Collier Invitational, hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Due to technical issues at MIT, full results for the meet were unavailable until Monday morning.

In addition to being her longest throw of the season, Hyde's mark in the hammer throw was the second-longest by a Northeast-10 student-athlete thus far in 2014. The Ravens added three top-five finishes elsewhere in field events on Saturday. In the javelin, freshman Miranda Gagnon (Rollinsford, N.H.) placed fourth, with a throw of 38.62 meters. Though the throw was shy of her season best, Gagnon remains first in the Northeast-10 in the event. In the triple jump, sophomore Danielle Demers (Auburn, Maine) took fourth (10.74m), while freshman Brooke Simmons (Dunbarton, N.H.) finished fifth in the long jump (4.94m).

Sophomore Micaila Olson (Upton, Mass.) narrowly missed adding another top-five finish, as she placed sixth in the javelin (34.96m). The throw was her best of the season and currently ranks fifth in the Northeast-10.

Franklin Pierce notched a pair of top-five finishes on the track to round out its day at MIT. Sophomore Monique Loney (Stamford, Conn.) took fourth in the 100 meters, with a time of 12.72 seconds, which was good for 16th in the Northeast-10. Meanwhile, sophomore Jackie Price (Brick, N.J.) finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles, with a mark of 15.50 seconds, which ranks 13th in the Conference. Loney added the Northeast-10's 14th-fastest time in the 200 meters, as she finished sixth in 25.97 seconds.

The Ravens will split time at a pair of meets this week. Select student-athletes will head for the Penn Relays, held Thursday through Saturday, April 24-26, in Philadelphia, Pa., while the full squad will be back in action on Sunday, April 27 at the Pride Classic Invitational, hosted by Regis in Weston, Mass.
