Price Wins 60m Hurdles, Two Others Post Season-Bests for Women’s Track & Field at GBTC Invitational

Hyde now sixth in Northeast-10 in weight throw

BOSTON, Mass. (January 19, 2014) – Sophomore Jackie Price (Brick, N.J.) ran her fastest time of the season to win the 60-meter hurdles on Sunday afternoon for the Franklin Pierce University women's track and field team at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational, held at Gordon Indoor Track. Price was one of four Ravens to beat or match their season-best in an event on Sunday.

Price ran a 9.61 in her heat to qualify for the 60-meter hurdles final, where she ran a 9.45 to win the event. The time was nearly a half-second faster than her previous season-best, and moved her into ninth in the Northeast-10 Conference in the event

The other Franklin Pierce performances which went for season bests all came in field events, led by a heave of 12.16 meters by sophomore Nadine Hyde (Maple Valley, Wash.) in the weight throw. The distance was good for sixth on Sunday afternoon, was Hyde's longest of the season, and moved her into sixth in the Northeast-10. Meanwhile, in the long jump, sophomore Danielle Demers (Auburn, Maine) posted a season-best leap of 4.86 meters in the long jump to finish fifth.

Elsewhere, freshman Brooke Simmons (Dunbarton, N.H.) matched her season best by clearing 1.50 meters in the high jump to finish tied for fourth. Simmons also finished fourth in the long jump, with a leap of 4.92 meters.

Back on the track, freshman Melanie Hill (Danbury, Conn.) notched a pair of fourth-place finishes. She ran a 27.53 in the 200 meters, as well as a 1:03.97 in the 400 meters. Senior Jannice Sundqvist (Harnosand, Sweden) placed fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 27.98 and sixth in the 60-meter dash by stopping the clock at 8.40.

The Ravens return to the track on Friday, Jan. 24, at the first day of the Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University.
