Women’s Indoor Track & Field Places Highly Across Varied Distances at Smith Winter Classic

4x200-meter relay notches third-place finish

Sundqvist Sundqvist finished second in the 200-meter dash, fifth in the 60-meter dash and was part of the third-place 4x200-meter relay at Saturday's Smith Winter Classic.

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (December 1, 2012)Jackie Price ran a time of 9.54 seconds to win the 60-meter hurdles on Saturday for the Franklin Pierce University women's indoor track and field team at the season-opening Smith Indoor Track Winter Classic, hosted by Smith College. Nine different student-athletes posted top-five individual finishes at the meet for Franklin Pierce, led by Jannice Sundqvist, who placed in the top five in both the 60- and 200-meter dashes.

Price posted the lone win on the afternoon for the Ravens in an extremely competitive 60-meter hurdles final which saw the top three runners separated by just four hundredths of a second. Price's time of 9.54 edged Janel Haggerty of Keene State (9.55) by the smallest of margins at the line, while Smith's Kirsten Silfvenius (9.58) was relegated to third.

Price represented one of four top-five finishes by Ravens in individual sprint events on the afternoon. Sundqvist provided the next-highest finish by placing second in the 200-meter dash at 27.18. Elsewhere, Amanda Kauffman finished third in the 600 meters in 1:42.42, while Sundqvist placed fifth in the 60-meter dash by stopping the clock at 8.27.

Price and Sundqvist ran the final two legs for the Franklin Pierce 4x200-meter relay team, which finished third in a time of 1:51.51. The pair was joined by Nicki Zeigler and Danielle Demers.

Four different Ravens would chalk up top-five finishes at distances of 1000 meters or greater on Saturday. In the 1000 meters, Ashley Maresca finished fifth at 3:29.60. In the mile run (approximately 1600 meters), Alyssa Lambert stopped the clock at 5:26.81 to finish 2nd. In the 3000 meters, Shannon Lozier (11:23.20) and Danielle Koch (12:22.10) placed third and fifth, respectively.

Meanwhile, in the Winter Classic's field events, Demers hop-skip-and-jumped her way to a distance of 10.65 meters to finish second in the triple jump. Elsewhere, Nadine Hyde placed third in the shot put with a throw of 11.02 meters.

The Ravens return to action on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Harvard Indoor Track Open in Boston, Mass.
