Olson, Hyde record 10 points each for Ravens

Olson Olson won the javelin at Stonehill on Friday afternoon.

EASTON, Mass. (April 26, 2013) – Freshman Micaila Olson (Upton, Mass.) heaved the javelin 36.33 meters on Friday afternoon to finish first in the event for the Franklin Pierce University women's track and field team at the Stonehill Skyhawk Invitational at W.B. Mason Stadium. The Ravens collected 20 points to finish ninth in the 10-team meet.

Olson came up just over 1.5 meters shy of her season-long throw and earned half of Franklin Pierce's 20 points with her javelin victory on Friday. The other 10 points came from fellow freshman thrower Nadine Hyde (Maple Valley, Wash.), as the Ravens did all their scoring in field events at Stonehill. Hyde's best performance came in the discus, where she recorded six points by finishing third (35.56m). She also added two points each by finishing seventh in both the shot put (9.19m) and the hammer throw (34.69m).

On the track, a pair of Ravens turned in their best times of 2012-13 -- for either the indoor or outdoor season -- while posting top-15 finishes. In the 200-meter dash, freshman Nicki Zeigler (Circleville, N.Y.) finished 12th (26.99), while freshman Alyssa Lambert (Manchester, N.H.) placed 13th in the 800 meters (2:25.26).

Univ. of Rhode Island (251.50 points) ran away with the team title at the meet, collecting over double the points of host Stonehill (116.5), which finished second. Boston Univ. (89.50), Bentley (70) and Bryant (54) rounded out the top five.

The Ravens return to the track on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4, at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, hosted by American International at John G. Hoyt Track & Field Complex in Springfield, Mass.
