Four Post Top-10 Finishes for Women’s Track & Field, Olson Early NE-10 Leader in Javelin After BSU Bears Invitational

Price posts 16.09 in 100-meter hurdles

Olson Olson had the best throw among Division II competitors in the shot put on Saturday at the BSU Bears Invitational.

BRIDGWATER, Mass. (March 23, 2013) – Freshman Micaila Olson (Upton, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce University women's track and field team tossed the javelin 32.09 meters on Saturday to become the early-season Northeast-10 Conference leader in the event, while placing sixth at the BSU Bears Invitational, hosted by Bridgewater State University at Edward C. Swenson Athletic Complex. In all, four Ravens posted top-10 finishes on the day.

Olson's throw was the longest of four competitors from Northeast-10 institutions at Bridgewater State on Saturday. As the meet is the only outdoor one on record among Northeast-10 competition so far in 2013, she stands as the Conference's early-season leader. Of the five to finish in front of her at the meet, three represented Division I institutions, while she was only 1.44 meters behind the top Division III throw.

Also seeing success in field events on Saturday was freshman Nadine Hyde (Maple Valley, Wash.), who posted a throw of 38.56 meters to finish sixth in the discus with a mark which is also good for the Northeast-10 lead in the first weeks of the outdoor season. She also finished 13th in the shot put, and second among Division II competition, with a heave of 9.63 meters.

On the track, freshman Jackie Price (Brick, N.J.) posted the most impressive finish of the day for the Ravens, as she placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.09). The time is good enough to rank third in the Northeast-10 in the early going.

Elsewhere, freshman Shannon Lozier (Merrimac, Mass.) took fifth in the 5,000 meters, with a time of 19:50.26, while freshman Ashley Maresca (Brant Lake, N.Y.) was seventh in the 800 meters (2:30.39) to round out the top-10s for Franklin Pierce. Two other Ravens added top-15 finishes on the track, as freshman Nicki Zeigler (Circleville, N.Y.) finished 12th in the 100-meter dash (13.58) -- with a time that is currently 10th in the Northeast-10 -- and freshman Alyssa Lambert (Manchester, N.H.) placed 15th in the 1,500 meters (5:08.44).

The Ravens are back on the track on Saturday, March 30, at the Snowflake Classic, hosted by Tufts University at Dussault Outdoor Track in Medford, Mass.
