RINDGE, N.H. (October 6, 2018) On Saturday morning, the Franklin Pierce University Ravens women's tennis team was defeated by Adelphi, 6-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Franklin Pierce.

The Ravens record falls to 2-8 (2-5 NE10) with the loss, while the Adelphi Panthers now stand with a 6-2 (5-2 NE10) record.

The day saw Adelphi win the first two doubles matches to get the doubles point, and five of the six singles matches. The lone point for the Ravens came from a singles match Adelphi forfeited due to not having a player available. Franklin Pierce senior Shelli Safran (Boxborough, Mass.) was credited with the win by default at sixth singles.

A sign of life came from Ravens junior Brigid Washburn (Greentown, Pa.). Washburn was close to winning the second set in her matchup, with the closest set score of the day, but eventually fell short in a 6-1, 7-5 decision to Adelphi senior Karen Serina.

Franklin Pierce was also credited with a win by default at third doubles, which went to Safran and junior Kelly O'Donnell (Maywood, N.J.).

The women's tennis team will play again on Sunday, Oct. 7, at noon, as they take on the New Haven Chargers at home in an NE10 matchup.
