Women’s Tennis Falls at Merrimack, 8-1

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (October 3, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated, 8-1, in Northeast-10 Conference play on the road at Merrimack on Tuesday afternoon.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 0-9 (0-6 NE10), while Merrimack improves to 5-3 (5-3 NE10).

Only able to field five healthy bodies, the Ravens opened the day in a 2-0 hole, as they had to default at both third doubles and sixth singles.

The lone point for the Ravens came in what was the day's most hotly-contested match. At first doubles, sophomore Alana Wyatt (Worcester, Mass.) and senior Sonia Rodrigues (Swansea, Mass.) were able to gut out an 8-6 win over Merrimack juniors Mana Seifaei and Lauren Persson.

Across the remaining six matches which were played, Merrimack lost just 10 games. Freshman Cassie Restrepo did not drop a game on the day for the Warriors, as she teamed with sophomore Mia Briggs for an 8-0 win at second doubles before sweeping to a 6-0, 6-0 win at fourth singles.

The Ravens return to the court on Thursday, Oct. 5, when they host Saint Rose in an NE10 match at 2:30 p.m. in Rindge.
