Women’s Tennis Felled by Stonehill, 8-1

RINDGE, N.H. (September 27, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated, 8-1, in Northeast-10 Conference play at home against Stonehill on Wednesday afternoon.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 0-7 (0-4 NE10), while Stonehill improves to 5-0 (4-0 NE10).

Only able to field five healthy bodies, the Ravens opened the day in a 2-0 hole, as they had to default at both third doubles and sixth singles.

The lone point of the day for Franklin Pierce came via a retirement at third singles. Sophomore Sarah Rich (Windham, Maine) picked up a 3-1 lead in the first set over Stonehill sophomore Caroline Ray, before the latter retired for the day.

Meanwhile, junior Nicole Downey led the way for Stonehill, as she won at both second singles and second doubles, and dropped only four combined games while doing so. At second doubles, she teamed with Ray for an 8-1 win. Later, at second singles, she rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 win.

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, Sept. 30, when they remain home to host Bentley in an NE10 match at 2:30 p.m. in Rindge.
