Women’s Tennis Downed at Warner, 9-0

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (March 21, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated on the road in non-conference play on Wednesday, 9-0, at Warner.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-18, while Warner improves to 4-7.

Warner opened with wins in all three doubles matches to jump to a 3-0 lead. The most competitive of the doubles contests came at first doubles, where sophomore Alana Wyatt (Worcester, Mass.) and senior Sonia Rodrigues (Swansea, Mass.) put up a fight for the Ravens. They took the match the distance, but dropped a 9-7 decision to Warner sophomore Andrea Silva and junior Paula Ordonez.

The Royals also picked up wins in all six singles matches to finish off the 9-0 sweep. Things were closest at third singles, where sophomore Sarah Rich (Windham, Maine) forced a first-set tiebreak, but was ultimately defeated by freshman Hanna Zahn, 7-6 (3), 6-1.

All six Warner players were victorious in both singles and doubles play on Wednesday. The Royals were led by Silva, who added a 6-4, 6-2 win over Wyatt at first singles to go with her earlier win at first doubles.

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, March 31, when they return home to host Roberts Wesleyan in a non-conference match at 10 a.m.
