Women’s Tennis Blanked at Assumption, 9-0

WORCESTER, Mass. (September 27, 2016) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon on the road at Assumption, in Northeast-10 Conference play.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-9 (2-8 Northeast-10), while Assumption improves to 9-1 (8-1 Northeast-10).

The closest match of the day came at first doubles on Tuesday afternoon. Freshman Alana Wyatt (Worcester, Mass.) and junior Sonia Rodrigues (Swansea, Mass.) teamed to give Assumption junior Cassie Burbine and senior Hannah Riley a contest. The latter duo ultimately pulled out the 8-4 victory.

In all, Assumption would drop just nine games across six singles matches, and had four players win in both singles and doubles play. Burbine led the way with wins at both first doubles and first singles. After the first doubles win with Riley, she had a 6-0, 6-1 lead on Wyatt at first singles, before the latter retired.

The Ravens return to the court on Friday, Oct. 7, when they travel to Le Moyne for a Northeast-10 match at noon in Syracuse, N.Y.
