Women’s Tennis Shutout at Stonehill, 9-0

EASTON, Mass. (September 22, 2016) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated, 9-0, on Thursday afternoon on the road at Stonehill, in Northeast-10 Conference play.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-7 (2-6 Northeast-10), while Stonehill improves to 5-1 (5-0 Northeast-10).

The most competitive match of the day came at first doubles, where Franklin Pierce freshman Alana Wyatt (Worcester, Mass.) and junior Sonia Rodrigues (Swansea, Mass.) went the distance against Stonehill junior Victoria Barbetta and sophomore Nicole Downey. The match ultimately went to a tiebreak, with the Stonehill duo pulling out an 8-7 (7-5) win.

In all, four Stonehill players would be victorious in both singles and doubles play on Thursday, led by Barbetta, who would go on to win at first singles as well. She matched up with Wyatt and led the match, 6-1, 3-0, before Wyatt retired.

The Ravens return to the court on Sunday, Sept. 25, when they return home to host Saint Michael's in a Northeast-10 match at 1 p.m. in Rindge.
