Women’s Tennis Falls at Saint Anselm, 6-2

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 10, 2016) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated on the road on Saturday, 6-2, by Saint Anselm, in Northeast-10 Conference play.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 0-3 (0-2 Northeast-10), while Saint Anselm improves to 2-1 (1-1 Northeast-10).

The Ravens picked up one point each in singles and doubles play on Saturday at Saint Anselm. In doubles play, it was a pair of freshmen who did the damage, as Sarah Rich (Windham, Maine) and Kelly O'Donnell (Maywood, N.J.) teamed up to score an 8-3 win at third doubles over Saint Anselm freshmen Caroline Temper and Bridget Keefe. Later, at third singles, it was senior Kara Brazel (Glastonbury, Conn.) who pulled out a 7-5, 6-4 win over Saint Anselm junior Meghan Golden.

The unusual, 6-2 score for the match was a result of rains drenching the Queen City before Franklin Pierce junior Maria Quagliano (Branford, Conn.) and Keefe could finish their match at sixth singles. Quagliano had taken the first set, 6-4, with Keefe holding a 5-4 lead in the on-serve second set before play was halted.

Ultimately, three Saint Anselm players were victorious in both singles and doubles play. Junior Jess Perkins led the way, as she did not drop a game on the day, by rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles, after teaming with freshman Kaitlin Hughes for an 8-0 win at second doubles.

The Ravens return to the court on Sunday, Sept. 11, when they travel to Bentley for a Northeast-10 Conference match. Due to construction on the Bentley campus, the match will be held at Brandeis University, which is also located in Waltham, Mass.
