Women’s Tennis Falls to Emerson to Finish Season, 7-2

RINDGE, N.H. (April 14, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated on Friday afternoon, 7-2, at home by Emerson in non-conference play to close out the season.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce finishes its 2016-17 schedule at 4-16, while Emerson improves to 6-9.

Franklin Pierce picked up both of its points by default on Friday, as Emerson competed with just five players. As a result, junior Maria Quagliano (Branford, Conn.) and sophomore Shelli Safran (Boxborough, Mass.) were credited with a win at third doubles and Safran was awarded a win at sixth singles.

Elsewhere, the most competitive match of the day came at third singles. Freshman Kelly O'Donnell (Maywood, N.J.) forced a first-set tiebreak, but ultimately dropped a 7-6 (0), 6-4 decision to Emerson freshman Rachel Scalera.

Four different Emerson players picked up wins in both doubles and singles play on Friday. Freshman Alisha Parikh led the way for the Lions with wins at both first doubles and first singles.
