Women’s Tennis Clipped at Warner, 5-4, to Open Spring Season

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (March 14, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule on Tuesday afternoon, with the first match of a three-match Florida swing. The Ravens were defeated at Warner, 5-4, in non-conference play.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 4-11, while Warner improves to 5-5.

Warner only had four active players on Tuesday, which meant the Royals spotted Franklin Pierce three points, with the Ravens winning by default at third doubles, fifth singles and sixth singles. Still, Warner pulled out wins in five of the six matches which were played to pull out the 5-4 win.

Franklin Pierce's remaining point on the afternoon came at first singles. Freshman Alana Wyatt (Worcester, Mass.) battled through a tough first set to claim a 7-5, 6-0 win over Warner sophomore Paula Ordonez.

The closest the Ravens came to claiming another point to take the match came at first doubles, where Wyatt teamed with fellow freshman Kelly Wilson (Hyde Park, N.Y.). The duo suffered an 8-4 defeat, at the hands of Ordonez and freshman Luiza Arroyo.

The Ravens return to the court on Wednesday, March 15, when they travel to Eckerd for a non-conference match at 3 p.m. in St. Petersburg, Fla.
