Ravens host Plymouth State on Thursday

RINDGE, N.H. (October 11, 2015) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated on Saturday, 8-1, at home by Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference play.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-12 (1-11 Northeast-10), while Saint Rose improves to 4-11 (2-8 Northeast-10).

The lone point of the day for the Ravens came at fourth singles, from senior Nicole Gilooly (East Sandwich, Mass.), who was matched up against Saint Rose sophomore KeriAnn Mahoney. Gilooly dropped the first set, but then rallied back with two dominant sets in a 2-6, 6-0, 6-1 victory.

Elsewhere on Sunday, freshman Shelli Safran (Boxborough, Mass.) put up a fight at fifth singles. Looking to force a third set, Safran went to a second-set tiebreak against sophomore Alanna Bergmann, but the latter took home a 6-3, 7-6 (0) victory.

In all, Saint Rose had five players win in both singles and doubles play on Saturday, led by sophomore Averie Bowen, who won at both first singles and first doubles. In doubles play, she teamed with senior Isabella Cubillos for an 8-1 victory, before rolling to a 6-0, 6-2 win in singles play.

The Ravens return to the court on Thursday, Oct. 15, when they wrap up their fall season with a non-conference match against Plymouth State at 2 p.m. in Rindge.
