Ravens host Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday

RINDGE, N.H. (September 9, 2015) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated on Wednesday afternoon, 9-0, by Merrimack in Northeast-10 Conference play at Merrimack.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce opens its season at 0-1 (0-1 Northeast-10), while Merrimack improves to 3-0 (2-0 Northeast-10).

The Ravens were able to take just one game from Merrimack -- last year's Northeast-10 runner-up -- over the course of the afternoon's nine matches. It came at fourth singles, where freshman Kara Brazel (Glastonbury, Conn.) suffered a 6-0, 6-1 defeat at the hands of Merrimack freshman Mana Seifaei.

For Merrimack, all six players were victorious in both singles and doubles play on Wednesday. The Warriors were led by junior Grace Messina, who teamed with senior Chealsey Giatrelis for an 8-0 sweep at first singles, before sweeping to a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles.

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, Sept. 12, when they return home to host Roberts Wesleyan in a non-conference contest at 11 a.m. in Rindge.
