Ravens wrap up fall season

Gilooly WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (October 20, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated on Sunday afternoon, 7-0, by Hartford in non-conference play at Hartford.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-12 (1-11 Northeast-10), while Hartford improves to 3-5. The two teams played under Division I rules, with the three doubles matches combining to decide just one point.

Hartford lost just six games across nine matches on Sunday, led by freshman Katherine Long, who dropped just two games over her two matches. At first doubles, she teamed with fellow freshman Skyler Schaar for an 8-1 win over Franklin Pierce freshman Sonia Rodrigues (Swansea, Mass.) and senior Emily Parrett (Amherst, Mass.). At first singles, Long breezed past Rodrigues, 6-1, 6-0.

Led by Long, five different Hartford players won in both singles and doubles play on Sunday. Meanwhile, second doubles was the only match where Franklin Pierce was able to claim more than one game, as senior Leslie Rodgers (Westminster, Md.) and junior Nicole Gilooly (East Sandwich, Mass.) fell, 8-2, to sophomores Emily Sneddon and Madeline Makings.

The Ravens concluded the fall portion of their schedule on Sunday and will return to the court in the spring.
