Women’s Tennis Falls to Saint Michael’s, 9-0

Ravens travel to Hartford on Oct. 19

Rodgers RINDGE, N.H. (October 11, 2014) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated on Saturday afternoon, 9-0, by Saint Michael's in Northeast-10 Conference play at Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-11 (1-11 Northeast-10), while Saint Michael's improves to 8-4 (8-4 Northeast-10).

Senior Leslie Rodgers (Westminster, Md.) put together the strongest effort of the day for Franklin Pierce on Saturday, as she squared off with Saint Michael's senior Caroline Martin at fourth singles. Martin wound up with a straight-set win, but not before the second set went to a tiebreak, as Rodgers fell, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). Earlier in the day, at second doubles, freshman Sonia Rodrigues (Swansea, Mass.) and senior Emily Parrett (Amherst, Mass.) put up a valiant fight, but ultimately fell to juniors Erica Bundrick and Alexandra Sulkin, 8-6.

In all, five different Saint Michael's players won in both singles and doubles play on Saturday afternoon. It was sophomore Nicole Kellogg who had the easiest go of things for the Purple Knights, as she dropped just one game on the day. She teamed with senior Kayla Dowd for an 8-1 win at third doubles and later swept to a 6-0, 6-0 with at second singles.

The Ravens return to the court on Sunday, Oct. 19, when they wrap up their fall season by traveling to Hartford for a non-conference match at 10 a.m. in West Hartford, Conn.
