Women’s Tennis Downed at Stonehill, 9-0

Ravens host Merrimack Saturday

Ravens Women's Tennis EASTON, Mass. (September 30, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated on Tuesday afternoon, 9-0, by Stonehill in Northeast-10 Conference play at Stonehill.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-7 (1-7 Northeast-10), while Stonehill improves to 6-0 (6-0 Northeast-10). Stonehill is currently ranked ninth in the East Region.

Stonehill was dominant from start to finish on Tuesday, as the Skyhawks surrendered just three games across three doubles matches and six singles matches en route to the sweep. At second doubles, freshmen Sonia Rodrigues (Swansea, Mass.) and Maria Quagliano (Branford, Conn.) managed to take a game from Stonehill junior Analise Kump and freshman Emma Prinos, but dropped an 8-1 decision. Rodrigues and senior Leslie Rodgers (Westminster, Md.) at second and third singles, respectively, took a game each from Kump and freshman Victoria Barbetta, but fell by identical 6-0, 6-1 scores.

In all, four different Stonehill players picked up wins in both singles and doubles play on Tuesday, led by junior Bailey Paradiso, who swept through both first doubles and first singles play. She teamed with Barbetta for an 8-0 win at first doubles before rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles.

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, Oct. 4, when they host Merrimack in a Northeast-10 Conference match at 1 p.m. in Rindge.
