Women’s Tennis Downed at Saint Anselm, 7-2

Parrett squeaks out singles win in third-set tiebreak

Parrett MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 16, 2014) – Senior Emily Parrett (Amherst, N.H.) was a winner in both singles and doubles play on Tuesday afternoon, but the Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated, 7-2, at Saint Anselm in Northeast-10 Conference play.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 0-2 (0-2 Northeast-10), while Saint Anselm improves to 2-2 (2-2 Northeast-10).

Saint Anselm took two of the three doubles matches to jump to a 2-1 lead to open play on Tuesday. At second doubles, Parrett teamed with freshman Sonia Rodrigues (Swansea, Mass.) to grind out a 9-7 win against Saint Anselm senior Kate Martin and freshman Meghan Golden.

Parrett was also victorious at third singles, the only one of the six singles matches to head to a tiebreaker third set. Parrett bested Martin, 6-3, in the opening set, before dropping a 4-6 second set to level the match. Parrett prevailed in the third-set tiebreak to come away with the 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 win.

Two Saint Anselm players won in both doubles and singles play on Tuesday, highlighted by freshman Jessica Perkins' wins at both first doubles and first singles. At first doubles, she teamed with freshman Ashley Sulkin for an 8-2 win. At first singles, she swept through junior Kirby Melbourne (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.), 6-0, 6-0.

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, Sept. 20, when they travel to Saint Rose for a Northeast-10 Conference match at 2 p.m. in Albany, N.Y.
