Ravens visit Saint Anselm on Tuesday

RINDGE, N.H. (September 13, 2014) – In its first match of the 2014-15 campaign on Saturday morning, the Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was on the short end of a 7-2 decision at home against Adelphi in a Northeast-10 Conference match.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce opens the season at 0-1 (0-1 Northeast-10), while Adelphi improves to 2-0 (2-0 Northeast-10).

Both of Franklin Pierce's points on Saturday came via default, as Adelphi only had five players available and had to concede points at third doubles and six singles.

The Panthers swept through the two doubles matches which were played, as neither the first doubles team of senior Charlotte Moreau and junior Katarina Barborikova nor the second doubles squad of freshmen Stefani Lineva and Rebecca Fakas dropped a game.

Adelphi continued its dominance into singles play, where it conceded just six games across five matches. Junior Kirby Melbourne (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) accounted for three of the games won by Franklin Pierce in singles play, as she dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Moreau at second singles.

The Ravens return to the court on Tuesday, Sept. 16, when they travel to Saint Anselm for a Northeast-10 Conference contest at 3 p.m.
