Women’s Tennis Downed by Adelphi, 9-0

Ravens wrap up 2014 campaign

McCarthy McCarthy wrapped up her collegiate career with the Ravens on Saturday afternoon against Adelphi.

RINDGE, N.H. (April 19, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated on Saturday afternoon, 9-0, by Adelphi in Northeast-10 Conference play at Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce concludes its season at 1-12 (1-11 Northeast-10), while Adelphi improves to 12-5 (11-1 Northeast-10).

Sophomores Kirby Melbourne (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) and Nicole Gilooly (East Sandwich, Mass.) put up one of the biggest fights of the day for the Ravens at second doubles, though they ultimately dropped an 8-3 decision to Adelphi senior Taylor King and freshman Jennifer Ferguson. Senior Natasha McCarthy (Rindge, N.H.), who was playing in her final collegiate match for the Ravens, teamed with junior Emily Parrett (Amherst, N.H.) at first doubles, though the duo fell, 8-2, at the hands of sophomore Katarina Barborikova and junior Charlotte Moreau.

All six Adelphi players were victorious in both singles and doubles play on Saturday afternoon. Moreau led the way, with wins at both first singles and first doubles. After teaming with Barborikova for the doubles win, Moreau swept through first singles, 6-0, 6-0. In all, Adelphi lost just one game in singles play on the afternoon.
