Women’s Tennis Falls at Assumption, 8-1

Ravens host Adelphi on April 11

Ravens Women's Tennis The Ravens are back in action on April 11 at home against Adelphi.

WORCESTER, Mass. (April 3, 2014) – Sophomores Lyla Austin (Rindge, N.H.) and Nicole Gilooly (East Sandwich, Mass.) won at third doubles on Thursday afternoon, but the Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated, 8-1, in Northeast-10 Conference play at Assumption.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-9 (1-9 Northeast-10), while Assumption improves to 4-9 (3-4 Northeast-10).

Austin and Gilooly picked up the only point of the day for the Ravens with their win at third doubles. The duo teamed to pick up an 8-4 win over Assumption junior Allison Gorman and freshman Kendra Sloan. Franklin Pierce nearly nabbed another point during doubles play, at first doubles. Senior Natasha McCarthy (Rindge, N.H.) and junior Emily Parrett (Amherst, N.H.) hung close, but ultimately fell, 8-6, to senior Meg Hall and freshman Hannah Riley.

McCarthy put up one of the better fights for the Ravens in singles play, as she took the court at first singles. She matched up with Riley and suffered a 6-2, 6-4 defeat.

In all, four Assumption players won in both singles and doubles play on Thursday afternoon. Riley led the way with her wins at both first singles and first doubles, while senior Paige Gilet picked up wins at both second singles and second doubles.

The Ravens return to the court on Friday, April 11, when they host Adelphi in a Northeast-10 Conference match at 10 a.m. in Rindge.
