Swimming Finishes Fifth at North Country Invitational

POTSDAM, N.Y. (November 18, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University women's swimming team collected five more top-five finishes on Saturday, as the Ravens wrapped up competition at the second day of the North Country Invitational. Franklin Pierce closed out the event in fifth place, out of seven competing teams.

In all, Franklin Pierce finished the two-day event with 187 points, which was good for fifth place. Saint Michael's (560 points) took home the North Country Invitational title by a solid margin over second-place and host SUNY Potsdam (385 points).

Freshman Mary Messina (Rindge, N.H.) chalked up a pair of the top-fives on her own on Saturday, in the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle. In the 200-yard event, she turned in a time of 2:11.88 to finish fourth. At the shorter distance, Messina clocked in at 59.75 seconds to place fifth.

The remaining individual top-five finish for the Ravens came courtesy of sophomore Tatyana Cook (Pittsburgh, Pa.) in the 200-yard breaststroke. She placed fifth, with a mark of 2:48.88.

Franklin Pierce's other two top-five swims came in relay events, with both Messina and Cook as a part of both lineups. The highest finish of the day for the Ravens came in the 200-yard medley relay, with a squad of freshman Emily DeVivo (Berlin, Conn.), freshman Caitlin Henderson (Waterford, Conn.), Messina and Cook teaming to finish third, with a time of 2:04.56. Meanwhile, in the 400-yard freestyle relay, it was a fifth-place finish in a time of 4:13.15, for a lineup of Messina, Cook, freshman Josephine Krysinski (Olympia, Wash.) and Henderson.

The Ravens return to the pool after the semester break, on Saturday, Jan. 20, when they travel to Pace University for a tri-meet with the host Setters, as well as Saint Rose, in Pleasantville, N.Y.
