Women’s Soccer’s Marques, Turmo Earn Academic All-District Honors from CoSIDA

RINDGE, N.H. (November 8, 2018) – Junior forward Veronica Marques (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and senior back Marta Turmo (Barcelona, Spain) of the Franklin Pierce University women’s soccer team have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District I First Team, as announced on Thursday by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). As a result of the selection, both student-athletes advance to the Academic All-America ballot.

To be eligible for selection, each student-athlete must own a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average or higher, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and be a starter or significant contributor athletically. The Academic All-District and All-America teams are voted on by sports information directors in the district and nation, respectively.

It is the first career Academic All-District honor for both Marques and Turmo.

Marques, the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year, is currently second in the NE10 with 38 points on the year, on 14 goals and 10 assists. The 10 assists are tied for second in the league, while the 14 goals rank third in the NE10. Marques also ranks third in the NE10 in shot attempts (82) and shots on goal (42). She has scored eight game-winning goals, which is tied for the league lead. Marques boasts a 3.66 GPA as a sports and recreation management major.

Turmo, the NE10 Defensive Player of the Year, serves as a captain on the back line of what has been one of the league’s strongest defensive units. The Ravens have allowed only 18 goals in 18 games thus far, which is good for an 0.97 goals-against average, which ranks second in the NE10. Turmo also pushes forward on corner kicks and set pieces for the Ravens, and has collected six points on two goals and two assists. She has attempted 14 shots, including six on goal. Turmo currently has a 3.73 GPA as a business management major.

The Ravens (15-1-2) have qualified for the NCAA Championship for the second straight season, as well as the 21st time in program history. Franklin Pierce is an East Region host, and will take on Caldwell in the first round on Friday at 2 p.m.
