Women’s Soccer Ranked Sixth in First NCAA Regional Rankings

NCAA Regional Rankings

RINDGE, N.H. (October 19, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s soccer team is ranked sixth in the East Region, in the first edition of the NCAA Regional Rankings, as announced on Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA.

It is the first of three weekly regional rankings published by the NCAA selection committee, ahead of the official selection of the NCAA Championship field on Monday, Nov. 6. Following the conference championship tournaments, six teams will be selected to represent the East Region in the 48-team field.

It is worth noting, despite ranking sixth, the Ravens would not qualify for the NCAA Championship if the season ended today. Each of the region’s three leagues -- the Northeast-10 Conference, the East Coast Conference, and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference -- is assured an automatic bid to the field of 48 for its conference champion. Currently, the CACC does not have a team ranked in the top six in the East Region. If this situation were to hold through until Selection Monday, the CACC champion would effectively “bump” the sixth-ranked team out of the field.

As a result, the Ravens still have work to do as they wind down the regular season. Franklin Pierce travels to Adelphi -- the top-ranked team in the region -- on Saturday afternoon, and then hosts Saint Michael’s and Southern Connecticut State in the final week of the season. The Northeast-10 Championship follows the week after, running from Oct. 31 through Nov. 5.

Franklin Pierce -- which is a five-time national champion -- is in search of its first NCAA Championship bid since 2010.
