Finlay Strikes Late as Women’s Soccer Wins at Saint Anselm, 1-0

MANCHESTER, N.H. (October 12, 2016) – Senior forward Madison Finlay (Plymouth, Mass.) struck for the game's only goal in the 89th minute on Wednesday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team snapped a three-game winless streak with a 1-0 win at Saint Anselm in Northeast-10 Conference play at Melucci Field. Junior goalkeeper Casey Cook (Beverly, Mass.) collected four saves to post the shutout.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 5-4-2 (3-4-2 Northeast-10), while Saint Anselm falls to 5-7-1 (3-5-1 Northeast-10).

The only goal of the game came with just 98 seconds to play in regulation on Wednesday. Freshman midfielder Kiley Vermette (Enfield, Conn.) had the original shot on the play, ringing it off the crossbar. Finlay got her head to the rebound to finish off her team leading sixth goal of the season. For Vermette, the assist marked her first collegiate point.

Cook (5-4-2) stopped all four shots on her goal to pick up the win, as well as her third shutout of the season. At the other end of the field, senior Cassie Quattropani (5-6-0) stopped five of six shots on her goal in a losing effort for Saint Anselm.

Franklin Pierce posted advantages of 19-7 in shot attempts, 6-4 in shots on goal and 8-4 in corners on the afternoon.

The Ravens return to the field on Saturday, Oct. 15, when they return home to host Adelphi in a Northeast-10 contest. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Sodexo Field in Rindge.
