RINDGE, N.H. (February 6, 2017)Jonathan Garbar has announced his first National Letter of Intent signees as the head coach of the Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team, introducing two players who will join the program for the 2017 season. Both signees, Marta Turmo (Barcelona, Spain) and Bruna Tavares (Belo Horizonte, Brazil), played for Garbar at Monroe College, his previous coaching stop.

"Both of these exceptional young women are not only proven talents, and leaders, but have only scratched the surface of realizing their potential," said Garbar of the duo. "The opportunity to continue our journey of development together, and to embark on the journey of building one of the premier programs in the nation, is one that Raven Nation should be tremendously proud of."

Turmo is a center back who has experience within Spain's national team system, including time as the captain of the U18 squad. In all, she has donned the Spanish jersey in 24 games, including 17 games at the UEFA U19 Championships over two years, during which she scored four goals. At Monroe, she was a team captain and started every game during the past fall season, striking for three goals and three assists over the course of the campaign.

"She is one of the most elite center backs in the nation, whose ability to command the game with and without the ball at her feet makes her extremely unique," Garbar said of Turmo. "Marta simply makes everyone around her better."

Tavares is a forward who earned All-Region honors during her freshman season at Monroe in 2015. While playing in all 18 games, including 17 starts, that season, she tallied 16 points on five goals and six assists to finish third on the team in scoring. This past fall, Tavares appeared in just eight games in her sophomore season, and started in all of them, but rang up 18 points on eight goals and two assists. Despite missing five games, she still finished fourth on the squad in scoring.

"Her ability to get forward and break down the opposition is simply a pleasure to witness," Garbar said of Tavares. "The physical and tactical development that Bruna committed herself to during the past two seasons is the reason she will take her place as one of the premier forwards in the nation."

The duo will make their Ravens debuts, along with coach Garbar, in the fall.
