da Silva goes off for two goals, push Ravens over Saint Michael’s 3-1

Rindge, N.H. (October 31, 2015) –  The Franklin Pierce University Women's soccer team received a great performance from freshman Nathalia Maria da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil) following her lead with two second half goals that would give Franklin Pierce the win over the Saint Michael's Purple Knights, 3-1 at Sodexo Field on Saturday afternoon.

After today's win, Franklin Pierce ends their season with an overall record of 5-9-0 and 4-7-0 in the conference. Saint Michael's falls to 1-15 overall and 0-13 in conference.

In the first half of the game got underway quickly, with a non-contested goal by Hannah Weagle (Ipswich, Mass.) in the 38th minute. Senior forward Kacyee Pereira (Ludlow, Mass) fed the ball to Weagle just outside the 18 where she had little defensive pressure. She shot the ball to the bottom left corner for the first goal of the game.

The Purple Knights were not going down without a fight and answered the Ravens goal in the 41st minute. Freshman back Sarah Williams put a head ball into the back of the net behind Katie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.) after her teammate junior midfielder Michaela Horn took a free kick outside the 18-yard box. As the first period came to an end the score would remained tied at 1-1.

As the second half was coming near a conclusion, the Ravens got a corner kick which set them up in their offensive zone in the 82nd minute. da Silva was able to send the ball to the top right corner just grazing the hands of Purple Knights keeper Kaylee Sullivan off of the corner kick, giving Franklin Pierce the 2-1 lead.

Da Silva not done scoring yet, adding an insurance goal off a give and go pass with junior midfielder Nicole Chaet (Tewksbury, Mass). Upon receiving the ball from Cheat after DaSilva passed her the ball off a corner set piece, she shot the ball to the top right corner of the net for the finish and that would conclude the scoring for the remainder of the game.

As the Ravens end their 2015 season, they took a total of 12 shots with Weldon making two saves on the night. Weldon's record now stands at 4-3-0 while Purple Knights keeper Sullivan's record falls 0-10-1.
