Ravens break through Bentley defense, 3-2 Win

Rindge, N.H. (October 10, 2015), Women's soccer played Bentley University at 7 p.m. for a NE-20 Conference Match-up. Both teams scoring multiple times in the second half, but Ravens goals by Yasmin Civan (Antalya, Turkey) and Saya Kato (Gifu, Japan) were able to lift Franklin Pierce over Bentley 3-2.

 

After todays win the Ravens now have a record of 5-5 overall and 3-5 in the NE-10, Bentley Falcons will go home with a record of 1-6-1 overall and 3-6-2 in conference.

 

Both teams coming out strong in the first half, a strong defensive and offensive presence in both teams. For the first 45 a back and forth game of shooting, with the Falcons putting four shots and the Ravens recording eight. Both team's keepers able to keep the first half scoreless, Katie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.) recording two saves on the period and Falcons Macrorie recorded five.

 

As the second half began both team's eager to get a goal, and Franklin Pierce Ravens were able to do just that. A rebounded shot from Midori Ono (Tokyo, Japan) left Yasmine Civan with an opportunity to score, from just outside the goal she was able to tuck the ball in the back of the net in the 51st minute of play.

 

Benltey was able to quickly counter the Ravens goal with one of their own, in the 65th minute Alysaa Valente was able to run down the right side, maneuver around her defenders, and take a shot from the top of the 6 and finish in the bottom left corner for the equalizer.

 

Almost immediately Saya Kato was able to get a rebound off Nathalia Maria da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil) shot still in the 51st minute.  Kato was able to take her shot when the keeper was unable to hold onto the rebound by da Silva. Kato put the ball in top shelf for the 2-1 lift over the Falcons.

 

Despite the cold weather the Ravens were able to yet again get another goal, this one came in the 68th minute, where Civan was able to get a rebounded shot from da Silva. When the keeper came out to save da Silva's shot it slipped and allowed Civan the chance to race to the ball and send it into the top left corner for the 3-1 lead.

 Both teams stepped their game up and the Falcons able to get one last goal to answer the Ravens last two. Carly Kohler got a pass back from Ana Tantum when she took a shot and able to make the goal from just outside the 12.
 

With 16 left to play in regulation neither team able to score again. Franklin Pierce taking the 3-2 NE-10 win on the cold Saturday night.

 

Overall the Ravens took 18 shots to Bentleys nine, Keeper Katie Weldon made five saves Bentley keeper making eight.

Ravens return home again October 14 at 7 p.m playing host to Saint Anslem.
