Three Goals Not Enough for Ravens, Assumption Takes the Win 3-5

Worcester, Massachusetts (September 3, 2015) Ravens travel to Assumption College in a 1 p.m. NE-10 Conference Match. Tied at the half 2-2, Assumptions two goals in the second half game them the boost they needed and were able to retain their lead.

 

After todays loss the Ravens are 4-4-0 on the season and 2-4-0 in the NE-10, while Assumption moves on with 6-3-0 on the season and 4-3 in the conference.

 

In the first half of play, Franklin Pierce breaking the silence with the first goal in the 10th minute, Saya Kato (Gifu, Japan) took a long shot from the 25 where the ball was able to be tucked away behind Assumption keeper Rose Lipinkski.

 

The Greyhounds answered Kato's goal in under a minute, in the 11th minute Amanda Arnold shifted past Katie Weldon to even out the score.

 

The Ravens put five shots on net, but Lipinski doesn't allow anything past, in the 31st minute the Greyhounds were able to take the lead with a goal by Jaclyn Tomasello, a header off a corner kick.

 

Nathalia Maria da Silva takes a penalty kick in the 44th minute, with a good shot she is able to tie the game again, as the period ends.

 

As the second half got underway, Assumption wastes no time, in the 49th minute Kallie Villemarie was able to get her shot in after a rebound and find the back of the net behind Weldon.

 

A penalty kick for the Greyhounds assists in their lead now 4-2 in the 56th minute.

 

Kato, perfectly positioned again, able to get the ball off a rebound and send it into the net to make it a one goal game in the  62nd minute.

 

Two back to back yellow cards on the Ravens, not helping their attempt to gain an equalizer goal. In the 75th minute Assumption able to take matters into their own hands and Arnold able to find a rebound off a shot and get the ball past Weldon.

 

Their last minute efforts not enough to come back, Ravens fall 3-5 after 90 minutes of play. Totaling 12 shots, and Weldon recording 9 saves on the day not enough to stop the Greyhounds.

 

The Ravens next game is in Albany, N.Y. in a 5:30 p.m. conference match against Saint Rose.
