Women’s Soccer Dumps Merrimack Warriors 3-2

Rindge, N.H (September 22, 2015) Women's Soccer played their third conference match up at home against the Merrimack Warriors. An exciting first half with two Ravens goals by Hannah Weagle (Ipswitch, Mass.) and Madison Finlay (Plymouth, Mass) for the Ravens to take the lead. Second half Warriors tied up the game in the 60th minute, answered by Hannah Weagle in the 78th minute breaking the tie and giving the Ravens the win.

Ravens record now 4-1-0 overall and 2-1 in the Northeast-10, Merrimack leaves today 4-1-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the Northeast-10. Ravens keeper Casey Cook earning her record of 3-0-0 after todays match, and Warriors keeper Molly Meehan 2-1-2.

In the first half, the Warriors put up the first goal in the 12th minute, off a corner kick, soon to be answered by Hannah Weagle in the 37th minute Assisted by Anna Holtchlag (Rhede, Germany). Holtchlag received the ball off a corner kick where she was able to center it and send it to Weagle in front of the net, the ball passed Meehan for the equalizer.

A back and forth game, both teams dominating the field, but in the 41st minute Madison Finlay found herself in the perfect spot, she received the ball and attempted a header which was sent back to her where she kicked the ball in from the six giving the Ravens the 2-1 lead.

As the second half got underway the Warriors seized another corner kick opportunity tying the game once again in the 57th minute. A back and forth power struggle between the two teams lead to the game winning goal in the 79th minute of play, where Amber Dempster (Belfast, Irland) took a shot which was redirected into the net by Weagle, her second goal of the game and breaking the tie and ending the game 3-2.

Ravens took 17 total shots on net, to the Warriors 14. While Ravens keeper Cook made six saves and the team as a whole made one save.

Women's Soccer returns home again Friday September 25, 2015 at 7 p.m.
