Da Silva goal in 87th minute not enough, Ravens fall to Stonehill 2-1

Franklin Pierce University Women's soccer played  Stonehill College Skyhawks at 4 p.m, their second conference match-up of the season. The Skyhawks took the lead in the first half scoring only one goal in the 44nd minute, as the second half got under way they seized another opportunity and increased their lead, now a 2-0 game. In the 87th minute of play Nathalia Maria da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored her third goal of the season, assisted by Kaciee Pereira (Ludlow, Mass).

 

 After todays game the Ravens have a record of 3-1-0 and 1-1 in the NE-10, the Skyhawks record of 2-2-1 and 1-0 in the NE-10. Ravens goalie Katie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.) now with an overall record of 2-1-0, Skyhawks keeper Jamie Block is now 2-2-1.

 

In the first half the Skyhawks put up four shots, while the Ravens put up five. In the 44nd minute of play Stonehill was able to cross the ball from left wing and chip the ball over Weldon and obtain the first goal of the game just in time to end the period.

 

Six minutes into the second half the Skyhawks were able to increase their lead with shot from 25 yards out, to the top right corner of the net.

 

The Ravens would attempt four more shots before the 87th da Silva was fed the ball from Pereira where she was able to dribble it up and swiftly ditch her defenders and put the ball in the right corner.

 

 Stonehill took a total of six shots on net during the game, to take the lead and keep it. At the end of the game the Ravens had taken nine shots, but unable to answer the Skyhawks lead. Ravens keeper Weldon made two saves, while Block was able to make four saves.

 

The Ravens play again September 22nd at home against Merrimack at 7 p.m.
