Late PK Makes the Difference as Women’s Soccer Falls to AIC, 1-0

Rindge, N.H (October 20, 2015) -- An American International College penalty kick in the 82nd minute broke a scoreless tie on Tuesday night, as the Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team fell to AIC in a Northeast-10 Conference match at Sodexo field. The goal stood as the only score of the game, as the Ravens suffered a 1-0 loss.

After tonight's loss, the Ravens fall to 6-7-0 overall and 4-7-0 in the NE-10, while AIC improves 10-4-1 overall and 8-2-1 in conference.

It was a scoreless first half of play, as the Ravens held off AIC. The opening 45 minutes was just a part of the strong defensive presence by the Ravens for the majority of the game.

The penalty kick came in the 82nd minute of play, when Ravens sophomore keeper Casey Cook (Beverly, Mass.) charged out to stop a Yellow Jacket forward from making her shot. After causing a collision inside the penalty area and being whistled for the foul, Cook had to retreat to the net to face the penalty, which was taken by senior back Romina Bell. Bell put her shot inside the left post for her fourth goal of the season.

Franklin Pierce had 11 shots on the night, while AIC had 14.

Cook made four saves in the match, and her record is now 4-3-0. Yellow Jacket keeper Rachel Edgin made five saves, and her record improves 10-4-1.

The Ravens play at Post University on Oct. 22 at 3 p.m. and return home to play host to Southern New Hampshire on Oct. 25 at 1 p.m.
