Ravens wrap up regular season Saturday at AIC

Ravens Women's Soccer MANCHESTER, N.H. (October 29, 2014) – The offense of the Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team was held without a shot on goal on Wednesday night in a 1-0 loss at Southern New Hampshire in Northeast-10 Conference play at Larkin Field. In fact, the only on-target shot of the game came from SNHU freshman midfielder Alena Woodarek, who scored the night's only goal in the 33rd minute.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 9-5-1 (7-5-1 Northeast-10), while SNHU improves to 6-10-1 (4-9-0 Northeast-10). With one game to play in the regular season, the Ravens are now tied for fifth in the Northeast-10, with the top four positions earning home games in the quarterfinal round of next week's Northeast-10 Championship.

Franklin Pierce is three points behind Adelphi, which is currently in fourth, with both teams concluding their season Saturday. To host a postseason game, the Ravens need a win at American International, coupled with an Adelphi loss at home against Stonehill. The two teams would then finish tied, but Franklin Pierce holds the tiebreaker after defeating the Panthers at Sodexo Field, 2-0, on Oct. 4.

Wednesday night's game was a defensive struggle throughout, as the two teams combined for just nine shot attempts and three corner kicks, in addition to the lone shot on goal. Franklin Pierce held advantages of 5-4 in shot attempts and 3-0 in corners, but could not put a shot on frame over the course of 90 minutes. Neither goalkeeper made a save, as freshman Casey Cook (Beverly, Mass.) took the loss (7-5-1) for Franklin Pierce, while sophomore Autumn Scanlon notched her third shutout of the season and picked up the win (6-10-1) for SNHU.

The only goal of the night came in the 33rd minute on Woodarek's third of the campaign. Junior midfielder Megan Hanna picked up the assist on the play, as she passed the ball off on the left side to Woodarek, who sent a shot into the top-right corner.

The Ravens return to the field on Saturday, Nov. 1, when they wrap up the regular season by traveling to American International for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Abdow Field in Springfield, Mass.
