Pair of Pereiras Lead Way as Women’s Soccer Blanks Stonehill, 4-0

Civan nets first career goal

Pereira Pereira had her sixth career multiple-goal game on Wednesday night against Stonehill.

RINDGE, N.H. (September 24, 2014) – Senior forward Talita Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored a pair of goals and junior midfielder Kaycee Pereira (Ludlow, Mass.) added a goal and an assist on Wednesday night, as the Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team posted a 4-0 victory over Stonehill in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. Freshman goalkeeper Casey Cook (Beverly, Mass.) stopped both shots on her goal to earn the shutout.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 3-2-1 (1-2-1 Northeast-10), while Stonehill falls to 4-1-1 (2-1-1 Northeast-10).

Much of the first half went without a goal, before Talita Pereira broke the deadlock in the 41st minute. The Stonehill backline was whistled for a handball inside the penalty area, resulting in a penalty kick. Pereira calmly put it to the back of the net for her second goal of the season.

Talita Pereira would strike again, just 91 seconds into the second half, in the 47th minute, for her second of the night. Kaycee Pereira sent a cross into the goalmouth from the left side and Talita Pereira finished it into the lower-right corner of the net from eight yards out.

It was the first of three second-half goals for the Ravens on Wednesday night, as Kaycee Pereira followed up with a marker of her own in the 65th minute. Franklin Pierce's initial push towards the net on the play was broken up by the Stonehill defense, but the ball deflected to Pereira in space on the left side. From 15 yards out and slightly outside the left post, she stepped into the ball and drilled a low shot to the far corner for her third goal of the campaign.

Civan capped the scoring in the 90th minute with her first collegiate goal, which created the 4-0 final. The Ravens earned a corner kick late in regulation, which sophomore forward Nicole Chaet (Tewksbury, Mass.) sent into the box from the left-wing side. Amid a scramble in front of the net, Chaet was able to put the ball away to touch off the night's final celebration.

Franklin Pierce posted advantages of 14-7 in shot attempts, 8-2 in shots on goal and 12-1 in corner kicks on Wednesday night. Cook finished with two saves to record the win (3-2-1) and her third shutout of the season. Stonehill sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Block finished with three saves and took the loss (4-1-1) at the other end of the field.

The Ravens return to the field on Saturday, Sept. 27, when they remain home to host Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Sodexo Field in Rindge.
