Johansson hat trick leads Ravens to key NE-10 victory

RINDGE, N.H. (October 15, 2008) - Sophomore All-American Angelika Johansson (Falkenberg, Sweden) netted her fourth hat trick of the season to lead Franklin Pierce University, ranked 17th in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, to a 3-0 victory over Southern New Hampshire University, ranked fifth in the NSCAA/adidas East Regional poll, in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at Sodexo Field this afternoon.
Johansson scored all three Franklin Pierce goals, striking early in each half before sealing victory with a penalty kick. Senior Ann Foley (Foxboro, Mass./Rockland) and sophomore Kelly Weygand (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) collected assists on the afternoon.

Senior Brittany Ester (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) and freshman Jocelyn Leon (Lenox, Mass./Lenox Memorial) saw action in goal for Franklin Pierce, with neither facing a shot on goal as the Ravens posted a 10-1 advantage in shots for the match. Ester played first 80:46, before yielding to Leon for the final 9:14 as the Ravens notched their fourth shutout of the season. Senior Stef Young (Natick, Mass./Marian) stopped three shots for Southern New Hampshire.
Johansson opened her hat trick just 6:42 into the match, when a long pass from the halfway line by Weygand sent her in one on one with Young before slotting a low shot past the charging keeper into the right side of the net. The All-American doubled Franklin Pierce's lead just 2:16 after halftime when she took a pass from the top of the 18 by Foley and slipped a low shot past Young from inside the six.
Young tripped Johansson up on the right side of the 18 in the 67th minute, and the NE-10's leading scorer converted the penalty kick for her 19th goal of the season to seal the Ravens victory.
Franklin Pierce (9-3-1, 7-2-1 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday, when it hosts the University of New Haven as part of Alumni and Reunion Weekend festivities at 3 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (6-3-3, 5-3-2 NE-10) hosts No. 24 Merrimack College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
