Women’s Lacrosse Puts Three on IWLCA Academic Honor Roll, Earns Team Accolade as Well

RINDGE, N.H. (August 3, 2017) – Senior defender Colleen Leonardi (Granby, Conn.), junior attack Julia Miller (Westfield, Mass.) and junior defender Megan Schaeffer (Brookhaven, N.Y.) of the Franklin Pierce University women’s lacrosse team have all been named to the IWLCA/Zag Sports Division II Academic Honor Roll, as announced last week by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association. In addition, as a team, the Ravens were honored as an IWLCA/Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad.

The Franklin Pierce University women’s lacrosse team’s 2017 season came to an end on Wednesday afternoon as the eighth-seeded Ravens dropped a 13-1 decision to no. 1 nationally-ranked and Northeast-10 Conference top-seeded Le Moyne College on Ted Grant Field in the NE10 Championship Quarterfinal. With the win, the Dolphins remain undefeated at 17-0 and the Ravens run concludes at 7-9.

(May 2, 2017) – For the first time in eight years, the eighth-seeded Franklin Pierce University women’s lacrosse team will make a postseason appearance on Wednesday afternoon, as the Ravens travel to meet top seed and No. 1 nationally ranked Le Moyne in the quarterfinal round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Ted Grant Field in Syracuse, N.Y.

(April 15, 2017) – Senior midfielder Vicki Graveline (3-1-4) and senior attack Alexis Garbarino (3-0-3) scored three goals each on Saturday, to lead the way for No. 1 nationally ranked Le Moyne, as the Dolphins dealt a 17-6 loss to the Franklin Pierce University women’s lacrosse team in Northeast-10 Conference play at Ted Grant Field. The contest marked the end of the regular season for both squads.

Franklin Pierce University senior goalkeeper Denise Hunt (Hull, Mass.) stopped a season-high 16 shots as the no. 11 nationally-ranked Pace University Setters bested the Ravens 13-12 in a Senior Day Northeast-10 Conference contest Saturday afternoon on Sodexo Field. With the win, the Setters improve to 11-3, 9-2 in league play while the Ravens fall to 7-6, 5-6 NE10.

RINDGE, N.H. (April 15, 2017) – With nothing but three stern tests on the remaining schedule, the Franklin Pierce University women’s lacrosse team played host to Bentley in a pivotal Northeast-10 Conference contest at Sodexo Field on Tuesday night. In what was a defensive struggle at times, particularly in the first half, the Ravens would never lead. Bentley used a three-goal surge in the first period to take a lead it would never relinquish, while seniors Ellie Shuman (3-1-4) and Hannah Lindgren (3-0-3) scored thrice each to lead the Falcons to a 10-8 victory.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (April 15, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s lacrosse team built a 9-5 first-half lead on Saturday afternoon, and later led 17-13 with just 4:57 to play before things got interesting at Jess Dow Field. Host Southern Connecticut State rattled off the game’s final three goals, but could not complete the comeback, as the Ravens held on for a 17-16 road win in Northeast-10 Conference play. It was the fourth consecutive win for Franklin Pierce, which matches the program record.

(April 12, 2017) – Trailing 5-3 on the road at halftime against a one-win team, the Franklin Pierce University women’s lacrosse team responded with seven goals in the second half on Wednesday night to rally for a 10-8 win in Northeast-10 Conference play at American International. Junior midfielder Briana Sweeney (Shirley, N.Y.) tallied five points on four goals and an assist to lead the way for the Ravens at Abdow Field.

Junior midfielder Caitlin Sweeney (Shirley, N.Y.) led all scorers with seven goals as the Franklin Pierce University women’s lacrosse team defeated Northeast-10 Conference foe Southern New Hampshire University 15-14 in a see-saw affair Saturday night on Sodexo Field. With the win, the Crimson and Grey improve to 5-3, 3-5 NE10 and the setback sends the Penmen to 6-5, 3-4 NE10.
