Beville has Five-Goal Day, but Women’s Lacrosse Falls at SNHU, 17-11

MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 9, 2016) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's lacrosse team battled Southern New Hampshire University evenly in the first half at Larkin Field, but the Penmen scored the last four goals of the first to take a lead they would not relinquish. Despite senior midfielder Lauren Beville's (Jamesville, N.Y.) five-goal day, the Ravens fell, 17-11, in Saturday afternoon's Northeast-10 Conference contest.

With the loss, the Ravens' record falls 6-4 overall and 3-4 in conference play, while the Penmen advance to 8-3 overall and 4-3 in the NE-10.

Both teams remained within a goal of the other until the final 10 minutes of the first half, when the Ravens went on a three-goal run. Beville, senior attack Nicole Beliveau (Westfield, Mass.) and sophomore attack Anna Wilbert (Bohemia, N.Y.) all struck to put the Ravens ahead, 9-7, with six minutes on the clock before halftime.

However, SNHU took the final minutes of the period to go on a four-goal run. Junior midfielder Casey Duggan had two of the four goals to push the Penmen up going into the second half, 11-9.

In the second half, Ravens on the wrong side of a 6-2 run. Beville had the two goals for the Ravens. SNHU put up six goals, including Alexa Bedell with a hat trick, to take the win, 17-11.

Beville led the Ravens with five goals and added three ground balls while causing two turnovers. Overall, Franklin Pierce took 28 shots, collected 16 ground balls and won 10 draw controls. Sophomore goalkeeper Denise Hunt (Hull, Mass.) faced 37 shots on goal and made 20 saves, but her record fell to 6-4.

Penmen freshman attack Kristin Wilder had a six goal day to lead the way. SNHU took 46 shots, collected 19 ground balls and won 19 draw controls. Keeper Nicole Kennedy picked up the win, improving her record 8-3, as she faced 25 shots and made 14 saves.
