Women’s Lacrosse Falls at No. 3 Le Moyne, 15-4

Ravens host Pace on Saturday

Dowling SYRACUSE, N.Y. (April 14, 2015) – Eight unanswered goals to end the first half put the game out of reach for the Franklin Pierce University women's lacrosse team on Tuesday afternoon, as the Ravens suffered a 15-4 loss at the hands of No. 3 nationally ranked Le Moyne on the road in Northeast-10 Conference play at Ted Grant Field. Four different players scored for Franklin Pierce, including the second career goal for junior attack Sherra Dowling (Leominster, Mass.), while senior attack Julia Suriani (4-1-5) and junior attack Erica Geremia (3-2-5) notched five points each in the win for Le Moyne.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 6-6 (4-6 Northeast-10), while Le Moyne improves to 13-1 (10-0 Northeast-10).

The two teams traded goals off the start on Tuesday, as Geremia put away a feed from junior attack Maggie Monnat just 37 seconds into the proceedings, and freshman midfielder Briana Sweeney (Shirley, N.Y.) answered on a free-position shot for the Ravens 44 seconds later. From there, it was all Le Moyne for the remainder of the half, as the Dolphins scored eight straight goals to break the game open. Geremia and Suriani had 2-1-3 each on the run, as Le Moyne took a 9-1 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, Le Moyne pushed the lead as high as 15-1, as Suriani and sophomore midfielder Amari Pollard added two more goals each in a 6-0 run to open the half. Freshman attack Anna Wilbert (Bohemia, N.Y.), junior midfielder Lauren Beville (Jamesville, N.Y.) and Dowling scored in the final 4:01 for Franklin Pierce to create the 15-4 final.

In other facets of the game, sophomore midfielder Kenady Kelly (Plymouth, N.H.) led the Ravens with three ground balls, while Beville snagged a team-best four draw controls. For Le Moyne, a trio of players had three ground balls each: sophomore midfielder Molly McGuane, senior defender Catie McKay and junior defender Kayla Szczesniak. Pollard corralled four draw controls, while senior midfielder Laura Hoffman caused a pair of turnovers.

Sophomore goalkeeper Denise Hunt (Hull, Mass.) finished with 10 saves against 25 shots and took the loss (5-5) in goal for Franklin Pierce. Senior Molly Marbut logged the first 52:28 in the crease for Le Moyne, made five saves against six shots and picked up the win (13-1).

The Ravens return to the field on Saturday, April 18, when they return home to host first-year program Pace in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is set for 3 p.m. at Sodexo Field in Rindge.
