Women’s Lacrosse Downed by No. 12 Bentley, 20-6

Lamagdeleine scores twice on Senior Day

RINDGE, N.H. (April 20, 2013) – Senior attacker Ashley Lamagdeleine (Westfield, Mass.) scored two first-half goals, and freshman attacker Nicole Beliveau (Westfield, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Madeline Shopshire (Hyannis, Mass.) added two goals each on Saturday afternoon, but that was all the offense for the Franklin Pierce University women's lacrosse team, which dropped a 20-6 decision to No. 12 nationally ranked Bentley in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. Prior to the game, Franklin Pierce honored the accomplishments of its three-player senior class on Senior Day.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 3-9 (2-7 Northeast-10), while Bentley improves to 10-4 (8-2 Northeast-10).

Bentley scored early and often en route to tallying eight of the first nine goals over the opening 12:55 to take control of the game early. Freshman attacker Tori Cerny and senior attacker Cori Geiger scored the first two goals for Bentley in the first 65 seconds of the contest and established the day's theme in the process, as each would tie for the game's scoring lead with six points on three goals and three assists.

Beliveau had the lone Ravens goal in the opening stretch, on a free-position shot, which cut the gap to 3-1 at the 4:14 mark, and then Lamagdeleine got Franklin Pierce back on the board at 14:14 to halt a stretch of five straight Bentley goals. Lamagdeleine would add another goal later in the first half, while Shopshire rounded out the first-half scoring for the Ravens, who trailed 14-4 heading into halftime. Geiger scored three goals and Cerny tallied a pair in the first half for Bentley, and each added two assists, while junior attacker Jackie Brown scored all three of her goals in the first half as well.

Bentley also enjoyed a 6-2 edge in the second half while finishing off the 20-6 victory. Cerny finished off her three-goal afternoon, and graduate student attacker Megan Wiggins scored two second-half goals for Bentley. Shopshire had a goal and an assist in the second stanza for Franklin Pierce to finish with a team-high three points, while Beliveau added the remaining goal.

Bentley forced 15 Franklin Pierce turnovers on the day, while only turning the ball over 10 times, en route to a 36-18 advantage in shots, which included a 28-15 edge in shots on goal. The Falcons were nearly perfect in clearing their own end after gaining possession, as Bentley went 15-for-16 on clear attempts (93.8%), compared to 6-for-10 (60%) for Franklin Pierce.

Sophomore goalkeeper Julia Coakley (Bridgewater, Mass.) started in net for Franklin Pierce and logged 43:51 over two stints in front of the cage. In total, she made six saves against 22 shots on goal and took the loss (1-3). Junior Jacqueline Jolles (Hamden, Conn.) minded the net for the other 16:09, stopping two of six on-target shots during her outing.

At the other end of the field, junior Ally Dorman made nine saves against 15 shots on her cage to pick up the win (10-4) between the pipes for Bentley.

The Ravens return to the field on Tuesday, April 23, when they remain home to host Southern New Hampshire in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Sodexo Field in Rindge.
