WINCHENDON, Mass. (November 30, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team surrendered just 19 shots on Friday night, as the Ravens returned to action for the first time in two weeks. First-period goals from sophomore forwards Marissa Massaro (Brockton, Mass.) and Ann Margaret DiSciscio (Litchfield, N.H.) held up through the duration, as Franklin Pierce opened the weekend with a 2-0 non-conference win over Morrisville State at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Freshman goaltender Emme Ostrander (Westborough, Mass.) stopped all 19 shots to post her second straight shutout.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 7-4-0, while Morrisville State falls to 7-4-1. The two teams will meet again on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena to wrap up the weekend series.

Franklin Pierce was particularly smothering in the first period, when it did all of its damage. The Ravens surrendered just two shots, while collecting 12 of their own, and popped home the game's only two goals as well. Massaro opened the scoring at 10:10, as she stuffed home a rebound for her fifth goal of the season. Junior defenseman Bridgette Prentiss (Buffalo, N.Y.) provided the initial impetus behind the play, as she sent a shot towards the net from the left point. Junior forward Meg Gilbride (Braintree, Mass.) tipped the shot en route, and the puck wound up loose in the goalmouth. Sophomore forward Haley Parker (Londonderry, N.H.) was the first to get her stick to the rebound, and brushed the puck towards the right post, where Massaro had the easy finish.

The Ravens doubled the lead, and ultimately capped the night's scoring, just 2:16 later, with a power-play marker at 12:36. From the right point, sophomore defenseman Carolyn Drowne (Bridgewater, Mass.) sent the puck into the right circle for DiSciscio. DiSciscio then moved it to the left point for junior defenseman Katie Neuburger (Fayetteville, N.Y.), who attempted a shot from there. The shot was knocked down along the way, but the rebound popped right back out to DiSciscio at the bottom of the right-wing circle. DiSciscio was left with an all-but empty net to finish off her second goal of the campaign.

Ostrander (2-1-0) stopped all 19 shots on her goal to post her second shutout of the season, which have come in back-to-back starts. At the other end of the ice, sophomore netminder Karoline Årvik (7-4-1) stopped 26 of 27 shots in a losing effort for Morrisville State.
