PLYMOUTH, N.H. (October 26, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team was not without chances through the first two periods on Friday night, but it was without a goal. As has been the case so far this year, the opposition was without a goal as well. The breakthrough came in the third period, as freshman forward Jazmyne Beck (Kalispell, Mont.) and junior forward Alli Sugar (Canton, Conn.) put home goals to lift the Ravens to a 2-0 win over Plymouth State in non-conference play at Hanaway Rink.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 3-0-0, while Plymouth State opens its season at 0-1-0. The Ravens have now posted three straight shutouts and are riding a season-opening streak of 180 minutes without a goal against.

Franklin Pierce held a 23-15 advantage in shots on goal through two periods, but the Ravens were forced to wait until the third period before they could get on the board. The opener came amid a scramble in front of the net, which saw a loose puck wind up at the feet of Beck outside the top of the crease, after sophomore forward Nicole Amato (Billerica, Mass.) was stymied at the right post. The left-handed Beck spun clockwise to her forehand and shoveled a quick shot out of traffic and into the back of the net for her second goal of the season at 7:52 of the third. Amato and sophomore forward Ann Margaret DiSciscio (Litchfield, N.H.) were credited with assists on the play.

The Ravens were able to chalk up 14 shots on goal in the third period, on the way to a 37-24 advantage for the night, and later found an insurance marker at the 14:26 mark. Junior defenseman Katie Neuburger (Fayetteville, N.Y.) put the puck towards the net from the left point, and it was deflected en route by Sugar. The redirected puck narrowly snuck over the goal line behind Plymouth State junior Emelie Lindqvist before she used her stick to knock it back out, and was immediately ruled a goal by the referee. It would stand as Sugar's second goal of the campaign.

Sophomore goaltender Kelly Turney (Fort Gratiot, Mich.) stopped all 24 shots she faced to pick up the win (2-0-0) and her second shutout of the season. Lindqvist (0-1-0) was able to pile up 35 saves against 37 shots, but suffered the tough-luck loss in net for Plymouth State.

The Ravens return to the ice on Sunday, Oct. 28, when they return home for the first time in 2018-19, to host Becker in a non-conference contest. Opening faceoff is set for 3 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon.
