Women’s Ice Hockey Completes Weekend Sweep of Saint Michael’s with 4-1 Win

WINCHENDON, Mass. (November 11, 2017) – Four different Ravens tallied at least two points on Saturday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team completed a two-game weekend sweep of visiting Saint Michael's with a 4-1 win at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Sophomore defenseman Bridgette Prentiss (Buffalo, N.Y.) led the way with three assists, while freshman forward Nicole Amato (Billerica, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal and was one of three Franklin Pierce players to finish with a goal and an assist.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 3-4-0, while Saint Michael's falls to 2-6-0.

Saint Michael's had the only goal of the opening stanza on Saturday afternoon. With the puck in the right-wing corner, senior forward Katherine O'Brien cut towards the net and shuffled the puck out into the slot. Senior forward Kaitlyn Wurzer got a stick on it between the hash marks, but could not corral it. Senior forward Ashley Dineen was on the scene behind Wurzer and stepped into a one-timer, which turned into her second goal of the season, at 15:51.

Franklin Pierce struck three times in a span of just 56 seconds -- the second-fastest trio of goals in program history -- early in the second period to jump to a 3-1 lead. First, at 4:52, the Ravens worked the puck down the left-wing boards to senior forward Alex Brolsma (Bloomington, Minn.), who walked out of the left-wing corner and snapped home her third goal of the season. Prentiss and freshman forward Haley Parker (Londonderry, N.H.) picked up the assists on the play.

Just 32 seconds later, the Ravens took the lead for good in a delayed-penalty situation, with an extra attacker on the ice. Amato had the finish amid a scramble out in front of the net for her third goal of the campaign. Brolsma and Prentiss provided the assists at the 5:25 mark. For Brolsma, her second point of the night marked the 98th point of her career.

Franklin Pierce struck on the ensuing power play as well, at 5:48. Sophomore defenseman Delaney Guimont (Bedford, N.H.) slipped home a one-timer from a sharp angle at the bottom of the left-wing circle for her first goal -- and first point -- of the season. Freshman forward Kelsey Ryan (Burlington, Mass.) had the feed across the slot from the right-wing circle, while Prentiss chalked up a helper on the play as well.

The Ravens added an insurance marker at 10:55 of the third period to create the 4-1 final. Sophomore forward Alli Sugar (Canton, Conn.) got on board for the first time in 2017-18, as she had the tip out front on a shot from the top of the right circle by Guimont. Amato provided an assist on the play as well, as both her and Guimont picked up their second point of the night.

Senior goaltender Madison Murray (Berkley, Mich.) finished with 20 saves against 21 shots on goal and picked up the win (2-2-0) in the crease for Franklin Pierce. At the other end of the ice, freshman netminder Lucy Chin (0-2-0) piled up 35 saves against 39 shots, but suffered the loss for Saint Michael's.

The Ravens return to the ice on Friday, Nov. 17, when they travel to Sacred Heart. Opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Sports Center of Connecticut in Shelton, Conn.
